Contamin8 is the follow on project of Serious Gordon developed between the DIT School of Computing, Learning Technology Team and School of Food Science & Environmental Health. It was built with Playground, a free SDK from PlayFirst.com. It is a 2D game that highlights how contamination can occur in the food preperation industry. The game was developed by designer Paula McGloin MA, BDes. and a 4th year computer science student Brendan Fields from 19th June 2007 until 21 September 2007.

Background Information

Contamin8 is a serious games project developed between the DIT School of Computing, Digital Media Centre, Learning Technology Team and School of Food Science & Environmental Health. The game is a ‘click and drag’ based food safety game. It is a 2D casual game that any novice or extreme gamer can pick up and play. The game only involves clicking the mouse so don’t be scared to give it a try!

Aim of the project

This games main objective is to highlight contamination during the preparation of food in a kitchen environment and to make people who play the game more aware of the proper health and safety practices that should be maintained in this environment.

Technical Information

This game was built using Playfirst.com’s SDK called Playground. It was coded in C++ and LUA and designed with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Flash CS3.
