Ciarán O'Leary

I am a lecturer in the DIT School of Computing. Though I am not involved in the teaching of Games Development at undergraduate level, I have an interest in the use of games as a means of attracting students to study computer science, and to understand the opportunities afforded by computers to experiment, understand and innovate. My research interests are in the goal-oriented development of autonomous agents, specifically in understanding the dimensions of the goal conflict problem, and the means of arbitrating between, and prioritising across, extended lifetime goals. In the future I would like to expolre the relationship between this work and work on believeable, autonomous characters in computer games.

Along with a colleague, Paul Kelly, I am offering a course called Introduction to Games Development to transition year, secondary school students from the inner-city area.
